Our Folbot Pisces

Kayaking pics

Folbot has been making folding boats since 1933. They are a friendly, responsible, supportive, company, and they make one heck of a kayak.

The Pisces was made in 1988 and is similar to their current Greenland II model. We've been paddling for a number of years, but this boat - the Lilly Dipper - was the first kayak we ever owned.

We went with a folding boat because of the stability and cargo capacity. She was a lot of fun and we learned a lot about folding boats from her.

It all starts with just a couple of bags.

The hull is made of a heavy vinyl-like material that slides into metal sleeves.

It has aluminum longerons and wooden ribs and seats. The seat backs swivel so that you can sit on top of them.

The deck slides into the other side of the metal sleeve. Here's the wrong way to put it on.
Kayaking pics

The right way to put the deck on is to start with the pieces on the sides of the cockpit.

Then you slide on the the fore and aft decking.

You should have seen the neighbors as they tried to figure out what the hell we were putting together.
Kayaking picsHere's the view from the aft. Notice the bungee cords that are used to help position the side pieces of the deck during assembly.

The Pisces has inflatable sponsons that sit in a pouch on the inside of the skin.

This great logo adorns the back of the cockpit.

For the Folbot fans out there, the Pisces is 16'4"  long, 36" wide, and 16" deep. The cockpit is 93"  long and 221/2"  wide.
