If you've gotten this far into our site then it should be pretty obvious that I'm just a little bit of a geek. No, really, it's true. Honest. Okay, well maybe not a wookie-lovin'-pocket-protector-wearing-never-seen-a-grown-woman-naked kind of geek, but I am the kind of guy who loves new toys and has just gotta know how things work. That's not a bad thing. So here are some things that that I (and maybe nobody else) find interesting: |

Photography
On February 20th, 2008 we we lucky enough to be in Tulum Mexico and had an excellent opportunity to photograph the total lunar eclipse. After doing some research (thanks NASA and MrEclipse) I ended up making the following exposures using an Olympus E510 (great camera) with the Zuiko Digital 40-150mm f3.5-4.5 Zoom lens at 300mm, f5.6, ISO400:
Basically I set up the camera using a remote cord and shot 3-shot bracketed exposures every 15 minutes. I bracketed .7 of a stop either way. I shot everything in a RAW format and then converted them and made the composite using Adobe Photoshop CS3.
Infrared Photography I've always thought infrared images were very cool. But until digital photography came around, they were just too much of a hassle to produce. I've had good success shooting IR with my Olympus C5050 using a Hoya R72 filter mounted on a Tiffen OLYC3000AD lens adapter, but found that my exposures where often running too long to handhold. I've had better luck using the same set up on an older C2020 that has a CCD that's a lot more sensitive to IR.
Here are some of the things that I have found fun and useful in my rediscovery of the joys of photography:

Web DesignThis site is a spin-off of the web development work that I do and of our need to stay in touch with our family and friends. It's had many incarnations, and has changed a lot since it started way-back-when as 3 free pages on Homestead. The current version was rolled out in April of 2007 and has a more Web 2.0-ish feel to it. As far as popularity goes, the old site got around 300 hits a month. Not bad for a noncommercial site on a free web host. This new site, however, is drawing well over 3000 hits a day! Just for fun, here are all of the countries that we've gotten visits from so far:
